I started making beats when I was 19 on a MPC 2000XL. It took me about 6 months to even figure out how to make a beat. I only started making beats because the businessman in me knew it would be cheaper in the long run to keep the production in house. Producers at the time were charging too much!
I learned from the best. I always watched when a producer would make a beat. I knew I could make beats because I used to bang on tables making rap beats as a child, so I figured I could do it now. I learned the equipment then when I had the money I bought my own equipment.
I came up with platinum producers Drumma Boy, Slicse Tee, DJ Paul and Juicy J, Ensayne Wayne as producers I got to watch and learn from. I learned how to fatten my sounds, different drum patterns, and other little gems that I can't tell you about or I may have to kill ya! I'm playin!
I like to sample. I don't have to but I like to. It's something about listening to old music and hearing a part you know you can sample and freak in your own way. Now some artist's (and labels) don't necessarily like that but like I said I don't have to. Thats the way hip hop beats were produced back in the day so I feel like I'm staying true to the game.
I use a variety of instruments to make music. Anything can be used to make sounds. I'm creative and making music should be fun. I use digital software to make beats as well as keyboards and MPC's. Whatever I can get my hands on.
